Reusable Nappy Demonstration and Sling Checks

September 12 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Free

**NEW VENUE FROM SEPTEMBER 2025 UNTIL JANUARY 2026**

Hackney Central Library will be closed for refurbishment from September until January 2026 so Thingy Cafe at Trowbridge Gardens is kindly hosting us for a few months. It is a few minutes walk from Victoria Park or Hackney Wick Overground station. Please respect the venue by only consuming food and drink from the cafe if you are attending the session. Great coffee, other drinks, and food available!

We have joined forces with Mel from Wrap a Hug Sling Library to offer the ultimate cloth nappy demo and baby wearing clinic morning!

Monthly at Thingy Cafe

  • Learn everything you need to know about reusable nappies.
  • Friendly and informal nappy demonstration for anyone who is interested – expectant parent or those already using nappies.
  • All welcome, no need to book!

Location: Thingy Cafe, Trowbridge Gardens, 1 Trowbridge Road, London E9 5LD
Timings: 10am-11am (approx): Cloth nappy demo and Q&As
From 11am approx: the sling clinic will start just after the cloth nappy demo around 11am. Please arrive by 11.30am for sling help.

Reusable Nappy Demonstration at 10am (approx 45 mins).

We will cover:

  • The different kinds of reusable nappies.
  • The newborn stage
  • Washing and drying guidance
  • Other local nappy initiatives
  • Troubleshooting

Nappy Ever After will also be on hand to tell you about their fantastic Hackney nappy laundry service and shop.

Thanks to Hackney Council and the Real Nappies for London voucher scheme, Hackney parents (pregnant or with a child under 18 months) can claim their FREE £70 nappy voucher on the day from a Hackney Council officer or online via www.realnappiesforlondon.org.uk/apply

Sling Clinic with Mel (Wrap a Hug Sling Library) from 11am.

You must come with your own for this sling clinic or if you want to try 1-2 particular slings, we can arrange that but we need to decide on which sling you want to try out before the sling clinic as it’s a short and busy session. If you want to try lots other slings, you will need to book an appt at the Bethnal Green sling library instead.

Fit checks are 10mins per person, no more, so Mel can help everybody. You might be grouped up with other people if you all need to same kind of support.

If Mel can’t improve the fit of your sling or we find that it isn’t safe, she will suggest either booking an appt at the Bethnal Green sling library or hiring one of the slings with her if possible, fees apply.

Please register by contacting Mel ahead of the clinic so she knows that you are coming and what sling you have/want to try out. The clinic gets very busy so you must register before coming.
The sling clinic is free, but you are very welcome to make a donation to the sling library via Mel’s ‘Buy Me a Coffee’ link to help support the sling library, as it is not funded.
